How this company came to be

Rekeying is the quiet workhorse of what we do. It keeps the lock you already have and simply changes which key operates it, which makes it the sensible answer after a move, a lost set, a tenant change or a contractor who kept a copy. We can usually bring several doors onto one key at the same visit, and we show you the old pins before we leave.

Shop rules

We look after the door, not just the lock.

  1. Your right to be there, confirmed. For lockouts and key cutting we check identification or another proof. It is a courtesy to you and to whoever else holds a key.
  2. Options for now and later. Sometimes the sensible move is a small fix now and a planned upgrade later. We tell you which parts are urgent and which can wait.
  3. A clean door and clear notes. We leave the area tidy and give you a short written account of what was done and how many keys were cut.
  4. Open 24/7, same fees any hour. Send a photo of the lock.

The work we take on

Choosing a service is easier when you know what each one actually changes. Rekeying changes the key, replacement changes the hardware, repair keeps what you have working, and installation adds something new. The sections below sort our work along those lines.

2021 census: what it means at the door

Every square is one home in a hundred.

  • 66 in 100 homes · older homes
  • About 66% of homes in Welland were built in 1980 or earlier, according to the 2021 Census. In neighbourhoods of established homes, keys have often been copied many times over many owners. Rekeying every exterior door to one fresh key is the common first job, and it works on old cylinders just as well as on new ones.
  • Single-detached houses make up about 65% of homes in Welland (2021 Census).Detached homes are exposed to weather on every side, so exterior locks see rain, salt and freezing air directly. Choosing hardware with a good finish and a cylinder that tolerates cold, then lubricating it properly, keeps every door turning through winter.

Good questions about locks

Should we rekey every time an employee leaves?

Rekey when a key has not come back or when the departure was unfriendly; when a key is returned and the register confirms it, the cylinders it opened are as secure as before. Businesses that want a response to every departure without a visit each time fit interchangeable cores and swap them in-house. Whatever the trigger, dealing with only the cylinders that key opened keeps the response proportionate.

Can padlocks, cabinets and the mailbox go on the plan too?

Yes. Gate, cage and shutter padlocks that accept repinning can share the back-door key, and the locks on filing cabinets, drawers and display cases can be grouped so the people who work at them carry a single key while the manager holds a separate one. Mailbox cylinders are small and are usually swapped for new rather than repinned. Everything is entered on the chart, so one document covers the whole premises.

What is an interchangeable core and why is it suggested for staff turnover?

A small-format interchangeable core is a small figure-eight cylinder that slides out of the lever, deadbolt or padlock when a control key is turned, with no tools needed; larger doors sometimes use a large-format core with a different profile instead. A manager keeps the control key in the safe and a few spare cores on hand, so a missing key means the core is swapped in moments and repinned later. For a business with frequent staff turnover, it turns a call-out into a routine.

Do high security locks need special maintenance?

Only light care. Use the dry lubricant the locksmith recommends once or twice a year, never oil, which gathers grit around the finger pins and sidebar. Keep the keyway free of debris and insert the key fully before turning. In winter, warm a resisting key in your hand or use a de-icer rather than forcing it. Check hinge and strike screws each season so the door stays aligned. Treated this way the cylinder lasts for decades.
